Despite what you might believe, cancer affects everyone. It is non-sparing and does not regard gender. In fact prostate cancer is the most popular cancer affecting males, while breast cancer is most popular with women. According to medical correspondent to The Telegraph newspaper, Stephen Adams, “cancer was seen as the underlying cause [for most] deaths in 2011”.
We are born with millions of cancer cells and it only takes one to become malignant and as cells do, they begin to correspond for the better functioning of the body or lose the will to fight and adapt to this one malignant cell. No one can say for sure why the cells give up and spread this deadly disease, however nutritionists have found that there are ways to reduce or even prevent the possibility of developing malignant cancer cells.
Dr. George D. Pamplona-Roger in his book ‘Foods That Heal’ (2004) suggests that anticarcinogens (cancer fighting agents) can be accessed through the foods we eat. He gives a list of the types of foods that contains such cancer fighting agents, which consists mainly of vegetables and fruits like broccoli, cauliflower, oranges, lemons, plums, grapes and tomatoes “especially those of the family cruciferae (cabbage, radish, and turnip) and Liliaceae (onions, garlic, and leeks)…” which Pamplona-Roger (2004) say promotes cellular degeneration after the cancer process has begun. He is even hopeful in saying that abundant use of vegetables can treat cancer.
Food for thought, don’t you think? So on your marks, get set, Go get those veggies!
